Commended Framers

Guild Commended Framer is a professional picture framing qualification recognized all over the world. There are GCF’s as far afield as the USA, New Zealand and even Russia. It is administered by the Fine Art Trade Guild who organize the examinations. These are rigorous and consist of an inspection of the candidate’s work, practical tasks set by the examiner, and a written paper.

Steve passed his GCF just after the scheme came into being (1993) and is GCF number 30. Ian is also a Commended Framer passing his exam in 2014. Karen passed the GCF exam with credit and, along with Steve, can use the Certified Framer (APF) logo

Recently Steve was delighted to be only the 12th framer in the world to be awarded the Advanced GCF in conservation framing.

Steve Hible of Right Angle Picture Framing Ltd. in Corsham High Street was pleased to hear that he has become only the 12th framer internationally to receive the Guild Commended Framer (Advanced) qualification in conservation framing.

Although Steve has been a picture framer for over 35 years, he says that he studied for six months to prepare for sitting the exam.

The qualification means that he has shown that he is able to handle and frame items of significant value and importance in ways that will preserve them for future generations.

“I have worked with a number of local museums and conservators and love the job of presenting historic pieces in the best possible way.” says Steve.

Guild Commended Framers are awarded their qualification by the Fine Art Trade Guild, the international trade association for the industry. The Advanced qualification began in 2006.
